To celebrate the unique collaboration seen during the showing Issey Miyake’s The Wind Collection - one inspired by Dyson technology and engineering sketches, at October’s Paris Fashion Week. Dyson launched a special line of Dyson DC16 handheld cleaner, adorned in a special color chosen by Issey Miyake for their Dyson A-POC range. The special edition will also feature all of the special characteristics found on the regular DC16 model, including the Dyson patented Root 6 Cyclone technology which doesn’t lose suction or clog, Dyson’s famous ergonomically design, and lifetime washable filters. When asked about the special project, the founder of Dyson, inventor James Dyson reflected “I’ve long admired Issey Miyake’s approach to design; experimenting with new technology, materials and production methods and redefining the possibilities of design. It’s been great to join forces on such an exciting and unconventional project.”

The Issey Miyake + Dyson DC16 handheld cleaner is currently available for purchase at Dyson’s online store.

Scottish-born industrial designer Neil Poulton teamed up with computer peripherals LaCie in creating a new addition to LaCie’s hard disk collection.

Clad in highly polished black finish, the new drive closely resemble the mysterious monolith in Arthur C. Clarke’s sci-fi classic, 2001. A single blue LED indicate the drive’s operational status in an otherwise, nearly silent performance. Capacity space starts from 320GB all the way to 1TB.

There are crystals, then there are Swarovski. Established by Daniel Swarovski in 1895, the crystal manufacture build a luxury brand through its innovative products and its creative endeavors. One such endeavors is the Swarovski Fashion Rocks event, which took place in October, an affair which blended the best of entertainment and fashion, all for the benefit of The Prince’s Trust, a charity organization that that focus on teens at risk in the UK.

This fusion also inspired a line of crystallized jewelry and accessories, the Swarovski Fashion Rocks Collection. Included are the Philips headphones bejeweled in beautiful Amethyst crystals. The creation of DJ Donna D’Cruz, the New York-based DJ who is staple at parties by Diane von Furstenberg, Zac Posen, and others. The headphones, named Rasa Rocks, in reference to an Indian concept of aestheticism, is currently available at selected Swarovski flagships and luxury goods retailers world wide.

In a world where a common maritime diesel engine can generate thousands of horsepower, why would any commercial freighter return to wind power again. The answers are actually quite simple: to reduce carbon footprint - a popular term in the current eco-concisious world, to save fuel cost - another popular concept in the high oil price environment, and because we can.

Christened this month, the MV Beluga SkySails is a 400+ foot long freighter commissioned by German shipping company Beluga Group. While its appearance is like any another freighter, the MV Beluga SkySails is equipped with a very unique auxiliary propulsion system, a giant kite measured at 1,723 sq. ft. (the vessel will upgrade to a 3,445 sq. ft. version later). Unlike traditional rigs and sails, the mammoth kite will operate at altitude between 300~1,000 feet, where the wind speed is higher and more constant. Beluga Group officials estimate that the creative wind-powered auxiliary propulsion system will generate a fuel saving of 20%~30% , which translate to a saving of low 4-digit in daily operation cost.

The vessel will make its maiden voyage via trans-Atlantic route from Bremen to Venezuela, then to Boston.

Designed by famed French industrial design guru Ora-Ito, the same designer whose mock rendering of a LV backpack caused thousands of purse-hungry shoppers asking Louis Vuitton for it back in 1999. The LaCie Golden Disk features a golden shell, made with nickel, copper, and yes, real gold. The casing is then shaped into a molten characteristic, giving it a liquid golden appearance. A selection of storage capacities go up from 500GB to 1TB, and it is compatible with both Mac and PC machines.

Just a month after the implementation of new features to its Zune digital mediaplayer franchise, Microsoft is starting a brand new initiative. Tomorrow, Microsoft will open a new online store, Zune Originals. With this new interactive online retail point, not only customers can purchase their Zune player directly from the source, they transform their new player into works of art. In working with 18 world-renown artists such as Sam Flores, Kenzo Minami, :Phunk Studios, Tado, and more. Zune Originals will offer customization called Artist Series. Customer can now select 27 original graphics and have it laser-etched onto their new Zune. In addition to the graphics from the Aritst Series, the site also offers 20 other graphics from its Tattoo Series as well as up to 5 lines of text. The intuitive nature of the new site will allow buyer to customize their new player without a hitch.
