DragonFly Gallery

Dragonfly just celebrated its 11th anniversary recently. Over these years, what was the most difficult aspect you have faced?
In general, I think Taiwan itself is a very difficult market to be in. Colette has Paris, Moss has New York, but Dragonfly only has Taipei, which is considerably smaller than the other 2 cities. Furthermore, there are numerous limits set on the promotion of a creative culture, due to the problems within Taiwan’s education on the arts. Because there is lack of familiarity on design, the average consumer do not understand concepts behind the majority of items we carry. Often, we have to transform those abstract concepts into forms more tangible, so they can be understood by the general public. We have also seen our central customer base, those oriented to design and art, declined in number the past few years, owing mainly to the uncertainty with Taiwan political system and the current slowdown in the economy. However, we will continue in our effort, to alter the general perceptions on design by the public. This will more people to understand the core of Dragonfly.
